Really Trying to catch up...

                                                                                                               Greece

                                                                                                     19th July 2008

I know... I promised i would give you some fresh news from the Rescue Center but zillons of thing have been happening all at once since the minute I stepped back in this black hole !

You might have heard that a new intensive care was part of the plan since last year. Well, I heard that idea since many many many years. But to my surprise it is actually happening. This huge structure is coming out of the ground. Of course we are in Greece and things tend to happen at a very different pace! But it is on it's way.

We are talking about 20 new tanks. And a cover for the winter. This gigantic project should be officially (very officially) opened in the nest few weeks.

This goes with of a lot of extra chores like emptying and refilling 10 tanks every single day at the present time. We have 22 turtles at the center, 5 volunteers (2 of which are leaving next week) and one single bloody pump named "the evil pump".

At the same time as all sorts of workers wonder around the center, some working hard, others "supervising" with a frappe and a ciggy as they do traditionally do.

Add over 2000 American students from P2P (People to people student ambassador program) that came to visit the center (100 per day) at the same time from mid June to mid July. That make a lot of action !!! The Pa people are working really hard. This should close down on the 23rd of July.

We will be having a day out of the Center on the 22nd to enjoy a nice lunch and a well deserved swim in the sea.

The usual lot of turtles arriving, some with bashed heads, others with hooks and fishing lines. Saving the world is not an easy thing :)

The summer programs are doing well in general with the exception of Hania which is experiencing a serious drop in number of nest. Rethimno is down as well. Matala is stable.

The good news for Hania is that the camp is back up where it belongs near the sea. Mr G is our neighbor once again, And for those of you who remember Nick and Tina they have there own place close by. The Bosa Nova welcomes volunteers and visitors with tasty food and delicious cocktails.

I hope to post some pictures very soon.

Until then... B Cool !
