Dear All,

For those of you who read me for the first time, this space is here to let my family and friends know about my whereabouts. I have the bad habit of leaving people who I care for in the dark.

But this section is also here to get the latest information about projects I am in contact with. I will try to include also some photos to show you where I “have to go” to save turtles. But someone has got to do the dirty job !!!

My latest...

I have just completed a week in Naxos, one of Greece hotspots for kite surfing. My sister and I have followed the 1st and 2nd level of the IKO training. Our next step is to take off with a board. Even though we are not on the following picture, check it out.

After this nice summer break, it was time to go back to Athens. My mom and sister flew back to France as I went to the ARCHELON Rescue Center in Glyfada.

I met the volunteers (Dany, Lena, Jenny, Lauren, Mieke, Dan and Vickie). They told me that we had 16 turtles in rehabilitation. Niki is  in charge for the rehabilitation part. The center is closed to the public for the moment but it will re open in September after some  maintenance.

I also found out that the turtle named Sophia that I saw back in 2000 which was a "floater" until 2004 had been released with a satellite transmitter. She was reported last in Northern Africa. You can find the map of her trip on the Archelon website.

Mina, another turtle, is still here. She arrived in 2003.

Amongst all the loggerheads there are 2 green turtles (Theodora and Dias).Theodora was released since then.

Later on, Lena, Dany and Jenny were released at their turn. Some went on traveling while other returned home.

3 French were sent to the center to replace them (Galaad, Frank and Amandine).

Since I arrived we received 2 turtles one of which died unfortunately. The one left is called Pavlouko (after me :). He had severe damage to his head and was covered with leeches. We cleaned him up and he is recovering slowly.

I am taking advantage of my day off to update this page so be patient there should be more next week...
